It has been a real pleasure to see Harry’s self-publishing progress in such a short space of time, he is the definition of consistency and hard work, and someone that a lot of new self-publishers can learn from.

Harry lives in Vietnam and is destined for great things.

I thought it would be a great opportunity to do a short interview with Harry to inspire those who don’t think it is possible to make a living from Amazon KDP, and that you can even do so alongside a conventional job.

Hey Harry!

How long have you been self publishing with Amazon KDP?

I started self-publishing at the end of March 2021.

How did you find out about KDP?

I found KDP on Google when I was looking for an online business opportunity. At that time, I wanted to work from home because, in 2021, there were many COVID-19 outbreaks in my country.

What was your reason for starting Amazon KDP?

I wanted to earn money to live. Due to the Covid-lockdown in 2020, I lost all my jobs (online & physical) and had no income at all at that time.

How much do you earn from Amazon KDP on average per month?

Now, on average, I make $4500+ per month (with total ad spend around $1200). I know it’s still not a big number, but I’m quite happy and grateful, and I’ll keep trying to work hard to get better results in the future.

Do you now work on Amazon full time?

I still have a main job in the morning from 7 to 1 pm as a chef in a restaurant. I start work at KDP from 2 or 3 pm until 1 or 2 midnight every day.

What people/sources helped you achieve success with Amazon KDP?

To be honest, I watched a lot of videos on YouTube and joined many KDP groups and read a lot of articles about KDP. But in the first year, I didn’t get any results and instead lost money on ads. I already felt hopeless and wanted to give up at that time, but I saw a lot of success stories in the KDP business. So, I tried again.

On March 16, 2022, I accidentally found the “MoneyOnTheSide” TikTok channel, and I felt motivated by the content. After that, I searched for information about this channel and finally joined the FB group. (KDP Secrets)

From this group, I learned a lot from Ben. All the information he teaches (on his YouTube channel, Money on The Side) is simple but very effective. I can clearly understand the way Ben speaks English. And because of the valuable information Ben provided, my KDP business started to pay off well. Ben is my mentor. Maybe without him, I would have already given up on the KDP business.

How has the income you get from Amazon KDP changed your life?

Frankly said, today the results I get from KDP are greater than my salary as a chef. From KDP, I was able to move into a nicer and bigger apartment and have my own private office and a large working desk complete with a large monitor and a good computer.

My family can have a better life now, and I can also pay off my debt due to the two years of Covid conditions (I used to work on my dining table in my house’s kitchen).

Do you have any advice for self-publishers who are not seeing success yet?

My advice to self-publishers who are still struggling right now is to stay focused on your goals and keep working hard until you get good results. Success can only be achieved through the right path, not by shortcuts or overnight. Don’t give up; everyone has a different path to success. Being late to success doesn’t mean never being successful.

Remember these three points:

• Self-discipline.
• Consistency.
• and keep learning.

Always remember, don’t become lazy if you’ve got a good result, but continue to improve your self-knowledge and skills. Try to disappear from groups of friends for 6 months – 1 year to focus and learn in silence.

Save your weekend hangout money and use it for Amazon ad capital and for other essential tools for KDP. KDP is a real business with real money, so no person or course can help you if you don’t have the right mindset to do it. Everything has to start with you first.

What are your goals for the future?

My goal for the future in KDP is to reach $7000 – $8000 per month. This is not easy, but for me, nothing is impossible if we keep trying and believing. In general, my goal for the future is I want to build 4 – 5 stable streams of online income (I’m working on the 2nd one now).

I agree with Harry that knowledge alone will not get you results, instead you must really apply the knowledge consistently, even when faced with challenges.

He has been wise to reinvest any profits made from KDP or his Chef salary, this has helped him to scale faster and is something I always recommend.
